This makes it pretty much useless for my 14-year-old son that I bought it for. I only have one issue so far, but it seems to be geared towards adult games. At least it was cheap.
I remember when they used to be almost half an inch thick, especially around the holidays, full of information on upcoming games, multi-page reviews, a large hardware section, demos and previews and custom programs on the discs, etc. The reviews are short and the previews read like a press release from the developer full of hyperbole and gushing enthusiasm even when the product may be a year away from launching.
See EDGE magazine in the UK for a great example of a gaming magazine (though it is mostly focused on consoles). I still pick up a copy every now and then but am disappointed every time compared to what this magazine used to be.
The hardware section has gotten smaller and smaller and these days you're lucky to see a couple of reviews of a mouse or new $5,000 gaming rig without anything else. The blogs have them beat with any up-to-date info, they need to set themselves apart with quality.
I've read PC Gamer for years and years, subscribing on and off and buying them on the newsstand. These days they are very thin with very little content.
They should be writing longer articles, more in-depth with more grown-up writing.
Will not order magazines this way again. Total rip-off. Not worth the hassle of trying to get my money's worth. Will not renew. After the first couple issues they stopped coming. I have not received an issue in almost 4 months; yet still supposedly have several months left in my subscription. I don't want back issues, I just want want what I agreed to pay for.
Don't know what happened or who to call, going on 7 weeks and still no magazine.
If you like PC Gaming then you owe it to yourself to at least try this magizine if nothing else. There rating scale is easy to follow and there website is also easy to navigate. I've been getting PC Gamer for about a 3 years now and have always enjoyed the content. The articles are genuinely funny and offer lots of insight into todays best games. I have also subscribed to Games for Windows magazine but it wasn't anywhere near as good as this.
